What is the reason for Allah Almighty permitting the food of the People of the Book for Muslims, to the exclusion of others, despite His saying, "Certainly they disbelieved who say: Allah is the third of three" and "Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam"?

The scholars have unanimously agreed on the permissibility of consuming the meat slaughtered by the People of the Book, based on the Almighty's saying: "The food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you" (Al-Ma'idah: 5). Their slaughtered meat is lawful for Muslims because they believe in the prohibition of slaughtering for other than Allah, and they do not mention any name over their slaughtered animals except the name of Allah.
