What is the ruling on working for a company that manufactures wooden boxes specifically for a wine company, knowing that the company does not place wine bottles in the boxes but rather ships them empty?

The ruling on working in box manufacturing companies is divided into two parts:

Firstly: If the company manufactures boxes for various uses, and among others, alcoholic beverage companies import them, then there is no harm in working there; because there is no direct assistance in what is forbidden.

Secondly: If the company manufactures boxes specifically for alcoholic beverage companies, then it is not permissible to work there; due to the direct assistance in sin and transgression, as evidenced by the Almighty's saying: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression" (Al-Ma'idah: 2). It is also evidenced by what was reported from Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah that assisting in disobedience is forbidden.

An exception to the second case is if the worker can avoid working in what is specifically designated for forbidden use.
