Will the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, intercede for those whom he disavowed, according to the noble Hadith: "I am free of any Muslim who resides among the polytheists"? And is the destiny of one who resides in the lands of the polytheists for the sake of a better material and cultural life the Fire?

It is permissible for a Muslim to reside in lands of disbelievers if he is secure in his religion and capable of performing the rituals of Islam. If he intends to invite people to Allah, he will be rewarded. As for the proofs that forbid residing in lands of disbelievers, such as the hadith (definition): "I am free of any Muslim who resides among the polytheists," and Allah's saying: "Indeed, those whom the angels take while they are wronging themselves," these are interpreted as applying to those who are not secure in their religion or are unable to perform the rituals of Islam. If a Muslim is not secure in his religion or is unable to perform the rituals, then his residence is a sin. Sins do not cause their perpetrator to remain eternally in Hell if he is a monotheist, nor do they prevent the intercession of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for the perpetrators of major sins among his nation. Nevertheless, one should not be lenient regarding sins, and a Muslim must be wary of Allah's cunning. Whoever is not secure in his religion in the lands of disbelief may be exposed to temptation and apostasy. Therefore, whoever is able to perform his rituals and possesses knowledge and piety, it is permissible for him to remain; otherwise, it is not permissible.
