Is it permissible for a woman to seek khulʿ from her husband who is unjust between her and his other wife, and who remains silent about the aggressions of his other wife against her, which have reached the point of beating and attempted murder?

It is forbidden for a woman to seek divorce or khul' from her husband without a permissible reason, as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Any woman who asks her husband for divorce without any [valid] reason, the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her." The harm caused by a co-wife is considered a permissible excuse for this, but one must first attempt reconciliation with her or for the husband to intervene and be just. If none of these attempts succeed, then there is no blame upon her for seeking khul' or divorce.
