Is it permissible to buy and trade in bank shares?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible to buy or sell bank shares because they are money being exchanged for money without the condition of equality and immediate possession. Furthermore, these are usurious institutions, and it is forbidden to cooperate with them, based on the words of Allah the Almighty: (And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression) [Al-Ma'idah: 2]. This is also due to the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) curse upon the one who consumes Riba (usury), the one who feeds it, its scribe, and its two witnesses. One must be wary of usurious transactions and repent from them, as they constitute a war against Allah and His Messenger, and are among the causes of Allah's wrath and punishment. The maximum amount an individual involved in Riba is entitled to is their principal capital.
