Is the urine and impurity of a hamster considered ritually impure (najis)?

This animal is not known for a ruling to be passed on it, but precaution necessitates avoiding its excretions. If it is an animal whose meat is not eaten, then its urine and dung are ritually impure (najis) according to all scholars. If it is an animal whose meat is eaten, then Al-Shafi'i, Abu Hanifa, and Abu Yusuf hold the view that the urine and dung of edible animals are ritually impure. Some of those who consider them pure recommend washing their excretions out of consideration for the view that they are ritually impure. There is no harm in keeping animals for amusement, provided they are treated well and not tortured.
