What is the religious ruling on not seeing the father's relatives or speaking with them, due to the questioner's feeling of schadenfreude from them regarding the death of family members, and their continuous creation of problems with his mother? Is this considered severing ties of kinship? And what is the sin that results from that?

One must be diligent in maintaining kinship ties and showing kindness to relatives, even if they mistreat or sever ties. He who maintains relations with his family, despite their cutting him off, is as if he is feeding them hot ashes, and he will have a supporter from Allah. Moreover, maintaining kinship ties is a cause for an increase in sustenance and blessings in one's lifespan. It fosters love among family members, increases wealth, and is among the greatest deeds after believing in Allah, and a cause for entering Paradise. As for mere heartfelt dislike, there is no accountability for it as long as it does not lead to severing kinship ties, abandoning relatives, or harming them. Shaking hands and greeting upon meeting is not considered forbidden abandonment.
