Was the skin color of our master Adam, peace be upon him, black?

There is no evidence specifying the skin color of Adam (peace be upon him). Scholars have differed regarding the origin of his name. Some say it is derived from "al-adama" (blackness or brownness), and others say it is from "adeem al-ard" (the surface of the earth) from which he was created. A number of scholars, including Al-Qurtubi and Al-Tabari, preferred the view that he was named so because he was created from the surface of the earth. Knowing his skin color does not lead to any practical action, nor is there much benefit in researching it. Authentic hadiths have described some prophets as being brown-skinned, such as Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, who was described as "Adami, well-built, with straight hair, as if he were one of the Zutt men," who are a type of Sudanese people.
