Is it permissible to write and publish non-scandalous amatory thoughts and poetry that address longing, love, and loss with abstract words, without delving into details, such as "I love you, and I long for you, and I wish to meet you and embrace you"?

It is permissible to write romantic (ghazal) poetry and related thoughts, provided they are free from obscenity and do not explicitly praise a specific man or woman. Poetry is like speech: what is good in it is good, and what is bad in it is bad. Islam has permitted it with certain conditions. Romantic poetry is forbidden if it describes a specific woman excessively, causing her harm, or if it is lewd and incites desires, as it promotes immorality. As for writing and publishing phrases like "I love you and I miss you," this is considered obscene and goes against modesty. It may fall under "softening speech" which tempts those with sickness in their hearts. It is advisable to avoid publishing romantic speech, especially for a female da'iyah (caller to Islam), to prevent misconception. Romantic expression is permissible only for one's spouse, with caution that it does not fall into the hands of others.
