Is it permissible to eat the flesh of a dead animal to satisfy hunger and thirst for a group lost in the desert?

Scholars have unanimously agreed on the prohibition of killing a human being or mutilating a limb from him for consumption in a state of necessity. However, if a human is found dead, the Shafi'is and some Hanafis permitted eating him in cases of extreme necessity, while the Hanbalis forbade it. The Malikis affirmed the permissibility of eating him in cases of dire necessity.
