Is it permissible for one in dire necessity to eat from a carcass to preserve his life?

It is permissible for a Muslim in dire necessity to eat the flesh of a deceased human if he fears perishing and finds nothing else, provided he eats what sustains life raw without cooking. This is the view of the majority of scholars. The Malikis, however, hold that it is not permissible.
