If a man divorces his wife because he assumes she called the police, and it turns out that she did not, then his divorce does not take effect; because the divorce was based on a premise that proved to be non-existent. This is supported by Ibn al-Qayyim's statement: "IF HE BASES DIVORCE ON A PREMISE, THEN IT BECOMES CLEAR THAT IT IS NON-EXISTENT, THEN ACCORDING TO AHMAD'S MADHHAB, THE DIVORCE DOES NOT TAKE EFFECT."
