Is refraining from chemotherapy while accepting other treatments, such as radiation and herbal therapy, considered a sin or suicide if cancer is found to have spread? What is the best way to earn good deeds for someone whose end is near, so that Allah may forgive her sins? Are a patient's deeds accepted after she learns of her illness?

Trial is a cosmic law, and a Muslim's affliction with illness does not necessarily mean death; rather, one might live long afterward. It is permissible in Sharia to forgo treatment if healing with medicine is not guaranteed, provided that experts are consulted.

To draw closer to Allah in this situation, one should preserve the obligatory duties and avoid the prohibitions, then increase in supererogatory acts, along with patience and good presumption of Allah. The acceptance of deeds depends on sincerity and conformity to the Sunnah, and it is not harmed by being in a state of tribulation, for Allah may test His servants so they may repent.
