What was the guidance and Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when he rose for the Tahajjud prayer?

When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, woke up for his Tahajjud prayer, he would start with the siwak (tooth-stick) and the remembrance of Allah, then perform ablution. He would begin his prayer with two light rak'ahs. He would sometimes rise in the middle of the night, or a little before or after it, or upon hearing the crowing of a rooster. Sometimes he would interrupt his wird (daily portion of worship) and sometimes he would continue it without interruption. In the hadith of Ibn Abbas, when he stayed overnight with him, the Prophet, peace and and blessings be upon him, woke up, used the siwak, performed ablution, recited the verses from Surah Al-Imran (190-194), then prayed two rak'ahs in which he prolonged the standing, bowing, and prostrating. Then he slept until he snored, and he repeated this three times, for a total of six rak'ahs. Each time, he would use the siwak, perform ablution, and recite the verses. Then he would pray witr with three rak'ahs. At the adhan of Fajr, he would go out for prayer, supplicating: "O Allah, place light in my heart, and light in my tongue, and place light in my hearing, and place light in my sight, and place light behind me, and light in front of me, and place light above me, and light beneath me. O Allah, grant me light." Ibn Al-Qayyim mentioned that Aishah's statement about starting the prayer with two light rak'ahs is the most apparent, due to her constant companionship with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and her knowledge of his night vigil.
