What is the ruling on using the "fear bowl" (ṭāsat al-ruʿba) – inscribed with Quranic verses – for the purpose of treating fear? Is this considered an innovation (bidʿah), an act of shirk (polytheism), or a desecration of the Quran? Or can it be considered a legitimate form of ruqyah (Islamic exorcism/healing)? And what is the legitimate Islamic action for treating fear and nightmares?

There is no objection to writing Quranic verses with a pure substance and then drinking it or placing it on a painful area, as this has been reported from a group of the Salaf. However, placing water in a vessel inscribed with Quranic verses for healing is not permissible, because the writing does not mix with the water, and the effect of ruqyah (definition) (exorcism/healing through Quran) is achieved by blowing with recitation or by writing with a substance that dissolves in water. This act is forbidden and constitutes a desecration of the Holy Quran. The verses must be effaced or buried in a pure place, as healing with the Quran in this manner has not been reported from the righteous Salaf.
