Is it permissible to stipulate Islam to a non-Muslim woman who wishes to marry, or must her conversion to Islam be solely out of conviction?

If a woman is not from the People of the Book, it is not permissible to marry her, due to the Almighty's saying: "And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe." However, if she is from the People of the Book (Jewish or Christian), it is permissible to marry her, provided she is chaste. It is, nevertheless, recommended for a Muslim man to marry a Muslim woman of faith. Marriage to a woman from the People of the Book may be recommended if her conversion to Islam is hoped for, and it is permissible to stipulate that she embrace Islam, for she might thereafter embrace Islam beautifully, as occurred in the story of Abu Talhah and Umm Sulaym.
