Is it permissible for a tax officer to accept symbolic gifts such as a planner or a calendar, or beverages such as tea and coffee, from taxpayers, knowing that this does not affect his work or alter his decisions?

Working in taxes can be either forbidden or permissible. Gifts to employees are not allowed except with the employer's permission, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "What is the matter with an agent whom we send forth, and he comes back and says: 'This is for you, and this is for me'? Why did he not stay in the house of his father and mother and see if he would be given anything or not?" Therefore, gifts given to an employee because of their job are not permissible for them to take except with the permission of the employer. However, if the gift is not due to the job, such as being a custom of the giver or for advertising, then there is no harm in taking it. Hospitality gifts are permissible because they are offered to the employee as a guest, not as an employee.
