What is the ruling on raising insects and reptiles like spiders and snakes, and what is the ruling on eating them?

Raising insects and reptiles is permissible if there is benefit and usefulness in doing so, and provided there is safety from their harm, such as conducting scientific experiments on them. As for eating them, it is permissible according to the Malikis if they are slaughtered (dhakkit) and their harm is ensured to be absent. However, the majority of scholars prohibit eating them, considering them to be among the impure things (khaba'ith).
