The answer

The schools of thought of Shafi'i, Abu Hanifa, Ahmad, and Dawud prohibited land insects such as snakes, scorpions, and mice, basing their rulings on the Almighty's saying: ﴿and prohibits for them the evil things﴾, and on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "There are five animals, all of which are harmful, and can be killed even within the sacred precincts of the Haram: the crow, the kite, the scorpion, the mouse, and the rabid dog." The Prophet (peace be upon him) also commanded the killing of geckos. The Almighty's saying: ﴿Say, "I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden"﴾ means among what you used to eat and consider good.
