What is the ruling on using a church as a hall for Muslim children's activities if it is free of crosses and statues, and there are only images of faces on the ceiling?

It is disliked for a Muslim to enter churches that contain pictures and statues. It was reported from 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that he would not enter churches because of the images in them. This is the view held by Malik and many of the Hanbalis. Ibn Taymiyyah emphasized the disliking of praying in a church that contains images. Ibn al-Mundhir affirms that prayer in it is permissible if it is devoid of images. As for what was reported from the Salaf regarding praying in churches, it is understood to mean that those churches were free of images. Scholars have weakened the narration that suggests the permissibility of 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, entering a church that contained images. Furthermore, the entry of children into churches carries risks for their faith and weakens their belief in al-wala' wal-bara' (loyalty and disavowal).
