What is the ruling on a Muslim man using a toothbrush that contains silver, without knowing the proportion of silver in it, under the claim of its benefit for the gums and teeth?

It is not permissible for a Muslim to use utensils made of the two precious metals (gold and silver). Exceptions to this include the Mushaf (Qur'an), a sword, and dental fillings or prosthetics. Therefore, it is not permissible to use a toothbrush made of gold or silver unless specialists confirm that it has a medicinal benefit and no permissible alternative is available. In that case, its use is permissible out of necessity, as Allah Almighty says: "But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him."
