What is the expiation for swearing to abandon taking 400 Egyptian pounds from one's work earnings, and is it permissible to take this money after the expiation?
If that which one swore not to do is done, then an expiation for the oath becomes obligatory. This expiation is, in order: feeding ten poor persons, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. If one cannot find these, then fasting three days, as Allah Almighty says: "Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is unintentional in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for what you intended of oaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten poor persons from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or the freeing of a slave. But whoever finds not [the means] - then a fast of three days. That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn. And guard your oaths. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be grateful" (Al-Ma'idah: 89). A single expiation suffices for multiple oaths if the cause is one, or if their expiations are one, or if they pertained to different actions before the expiation, unless one intended repetition.
