How can one advise a person who performs the obligatory prayers, honors his mother, and avoids looking at women, but does not maintain the regular Sunnah prayers and is addicted to masturbation and wishes to repent?

We hope that this brother is among those who have mixed a righteous deed with another evil one, and his mother's prayers may be the reason for people's affection for him. He should be advised to perfect his good qualities with sincere repentance from the reprehensible habit and to maintain the regular (supererogatory) prayers. Let him know that he is not incapable of repentance, for Allah grants success to whoever sincerely seeks refuge in Him. He must seek Allah's help, increase in remembrance (dhikr) and recitation of the Qur'an, associate with the righteous, and marry if possible; otherwise, he should fast frequently.
