Is the estate of a man who died, leaving behind his wife, two full brothers, one half-brother, and five daughters, to be divided?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a man dies and leaves behind a wife, three sons, and five daughters, the wife receives one-eighth of the inheritance due to the presence of heirs, as Allah Almighty says: "But if you have children, they get an eighth of what you leave, after any bequests you may make or debts you owe." The remainder goes to the children, male and female, with the male receiving the equivalent of the share of two females, as Allah Almighty says: "Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females."

The inheritance is divided into 88 shares: - For the wife: 11 shares (Inheritance × 11 ÷ 88). - For each son: 14 shares (Inheritance × 14 ÷ 88). - For each daughter: 7 shares (Inheritance × 7 ÷ 88).
