Why do tragic accidents occur, such as the JFK Jr. plane crash, and why does a person sometimes feel that God is distant, despite their prayers?

Allah sends down tribulations to distinguish the patient and those who seek His reward from the despairing and discontent. Incidents like plane crashes are divine decrees and signs that invite reflection on Allah's power, reminding humans of their helplessness and weakness before Allah's might, and that nothing can save them from Allah's wrath. A Muslim does not grieve over the destruction of a non-Muslim, but rather grieves over their failure to be guided to the truth. Sadness and desolation are from Satan, who wishes to grieve the believers. To escape the machinations and whisperings of Satan, one must seek refuge in Allah and return to Him, and the servant should know that Allah is near, answering the supplication of the supplicant when he calls upon Him.
