Is there any evidence from the Qur’an or Sunnah for the sufficient ritual bath (ghusl) to remove janabah—by thoroughly wetting the body with water along with the intention—and is it limited to janabah, or does it also include the ghusl after menstruation, and is the ghusl after menstruation included in the ghusl for janabah?

The proof for the condition of covering the entire body with water is Allah's saying: "nor defiled, unless you are traveling, until you have washed yourselves," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying to Umm Salama: "It is enough for you to pour three handfuls of water over your head, then pour water over your body, and you will become pure," and what was narrated from him: "Under every hair there is ritual impurity; so wash the hair and purify the skin."

As for the proof for the condition of intention, it is Allah's saying: "And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, sincere to Him in religion," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Actions are but by intentions, and every person will have what he intended."

Ghusl for janabah is like ghusl for menstruation in covering the entire body with water along with the intention. The Hanbalis stipulated untying braids for ghusl for menstruation but not for janabah, contrary to the majority who did not stipulate that. If a woman had two impurities (menstruation and janabah) and intended both, one ghusl would suffice her, based on the hadith: "and every person will have what he intended."
