The answer

The major ritual bath ( al-) has two forms: a sufficient form and a complete form. The sufficient form is to rinse the mouth, sniff water into the nose, and make sure water covers the entire body. The complete form is to wash one's private parts and whatever has been soiled by the traces of janabah, then perform a complete ablution (wudu'), then pour water over the head three times until it reaches the roots of the hair, then wash the right side of the body, then the left.
