Should a girl accept negotiating with a suitor who proposes to her, regarding his prayer, or should she reject the whole matter and be patient, knowing that she lives in Europe and wishes to marry a righteous person who is diligent in prayer?
If a young man who does not observe the obligatory duties, especially prayer, proposes to you, do not accept him. It is not enough to stipulate that he observe prayers in the future; rather, he must become righteous and observe them before you accept him. Prayer is the greatest matter of religion after faith, and whoever is negligent in it will be even more negligent in other matters.
However, if the young man becomes righteous and observes prayer, there is no impediment to accepting him, based on the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "If someone whose religion and character you approve of proposes to you, then marry him. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption."
If he does not become righteous, then be patient until Allah provides you with a righteous suitor. It is not necessary for the suitor to reside in the same country, and it is permissible for you to propose marriage to someone whom you deem righteous, with proper controls and manners. Have a good opinion of your Lord and supplicate frequently.
