Divorce before consummation results in a minor separation (baynunah sughra), and the husband is not entitled to take his wife back except with a new marriage contract. The husband is not obliged to inform the wife or her family of the details, but the contract must be renewed. The initial consent is not sufficient because he approaches her as a new suitor, and the woman or her guardian may not consent, which is their right. The husband is advised to be gentle in informing them and to give them the impression that the divorce was by mistake (tawriyah - strategic ambiguity). The son should honor his father, and the father should not abuse his authority.
