What is the ruling on seeing the pictures of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, which were drawn in the Danish newspapers, in order to take action regarding the publication of the matter?
The prohibition of drawing animate beings is severe and falls under the religious warning for image-makers. If the prohibition of drawing is established, then the prohibition of looking at such drawings with approval is also established. The حرمة (sanctity/prohibition) of depicting the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is even more severe, due to the promotion of what newspapers have drawn, increasing the negativity, and disrespecting everything connected to him. Therefore, it is not permissible to view these images. There are other means to grasp the subject, such as studying his biography and comparing what he endured from thevers.
