What is the criterion for interaction and communication between the mosque's imam, the director of the Islamic center, or an ordinary Muslim man who acts as a guardian for a new Muslim woman in Western countries? Does this mean he becomes like her original guardian? What is the recognized need for defining the powers of such a guardian, and does his guardianship continue after marriage? Is it necessary to communicate through the guardian's mahrams or his wife, or is direct communication permissible?

It is not permissible for a man and a non-mahram (definition) woman to speak to each other except out of necessity and provided there is no fear of temptation. This includes any non-mahram man, even if he is her guardian for marriage, other than her mahrams. Expanding on this is a reprehensible act. If a woman does not have a Muslim guardian, the Sharia (definition) judge marries her, or whoever acts in his place, such as those in charge of Islamic centers. If none is available, she appoints a trustworthy Muslim man. It is permissible for a woman to appoint someone to conduct her marriage, and he may marry her to himself. There is no harm in her seeking his assistance in her affairs if needed, and direct communication with him is permissible, while observing the regulations.
