Is a woman who performs acts of worship, such as prayer and fasting, but does not wear hijab considered a disbeliever? And does she differ from a woman who claims to be Muslim but does not pray and does not wear hijab? What are the limits of the awrah (private parts that must be covered) for a righteous Muslim woman for these two categories of women?

The hijab is an obligation, and abandoning it is a sin. Abandoning prayer out of denial is kufr (disbelief) by consensus, whereas abandoning it due to laziness is a matter of scholarly disagreement. The majority of scholars hold that it is not kufr that expels one from the fold of Islam, while some scholars maintain that it is major kufr. Consequently, a woman who neither prays nor observes hijab has committed major sins. According to those who do not consider abandoning prayer an act of disbelief, a Muslim woman's awrah (private parts that must be covered) with her is the same as her awrah with other Muslim women. However, according to those who consider abandoning prayer an act of disbelief, a Muslim woman is not permitted to expose to a woman who does not pray anything but her face, hands, and the extremities of the body that commonly appear during work.
