What is the Shar'i ruling on a husband asking his wife to donate a part of her liver to pay off a debt he owes, knowing that he is unemployed and does not take responsibility for his household, and that the wife had previously donated a part of her kidney to help him, and now wishes to sell his car to pay off the debt and divorce him?

Good companionship should prevail among Muslims, especially among relatives. It is not permissible for the wife to be expelled from her husband's apartment if it is his property. However, if it belongs to the husband's mother, she has the right to do so. The wife did well in urging her husband to maintain ties with his mother, for his abandonment of her is not permissible in Islamic law. If relatives err against the wife, she should be patient with them and advise them gently. It is not permissible for the husband to abandon his family to please his wife. The maintenance of the wife and children is obligatory upon the husband. Selling human organs is forbidden, and one must repent from it. It is not permissible for the wife to sell a lobe of her liver to pay off her husband's debt. He must strive to repay it by seeking Allah's help.
