What is the ruling on anashid, and are they considered an Islamic alternative or an innovation (bid'ah)?

We have previously clarified that there is no harm in listening to Islamic anasheed (chants) if they do not include musical instruments. And there is no objection to referring to them as "Islamic alternatives"; meaning that they are a form of permissible listening instead of blameworthy listening. However, they are not an innovation (bid'ah), unless something accompanies them that would categorize them as such.
