Is it permissible in Islamic law for a person to supplicate to Allah Almighty that he may speak to or see an angel?

Angels cannot be seen in their true form except by prophets. However, seeing them in human form is possible for believers as a karamah (divine honor), while non-believers see them when punishment descends. There is no report from the righteous predecessors ( Salaf as-Salih ) that they sought to see angels or speak to them. Therefore, it is not prescribed to supplicate to Allah for that, as there is no shar'i (legal) benefit in it, and because the possible vision would be in human form, which could lead to confusion. It is better for a Muslim to occupy himself with righteous deeds and shar'i supplications, for the ultimate karamah is adherence to righteousness.
