What is the ruling on money earned from renting out computers containing belly dance music for events where young men and unveiled young women intermingle, knowing that there is no other work available?
The work is religiously forbidden (haram), and the money earned from it or from assisting in it is illicit (khabith) and impermissible to possess. Rather, it must be disposed of by spending it on the welfare of Muslims, along with sincere repentance, abandoning those sins, and refraining from attending forbidden acts. Allah Almighty said: (And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect). And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, the Holy Spirit inspired in my heart that no soul will die until it completes its provision and its appointed term. So fear Allah and be moderate in seeking (provision)."
