What is the ruling on a woman maintaining ties of kinship, and is she required to do so like her brother?

It is forbidden for a Muslim to sever ties with or abandon his Muslim brother for more than three nights due to worldly reasons. This prohibition becomes even stronger if the abandoned person is a close relative, thereby holding a right of kinship and familial ties. As stated in the Hadith: "Do not hate one another, do not envy one another, do not turn away from one another, and do not abandon one another. Be, O servants of Allah, brothers. It is not lawful for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three [days]." And Allah Almighty says: "And give the relative his due, and the needy and the traveler, and do not spend wastefully." Abandonment prevents forgiveness, as it was reported: "The gates of Paradise are opened on Mondays and Thursdays, and Allah forgives every person who does not associate anything with Allah, except for a person between whom and his brother there is animosity. It will be said: 'Look at these two until they reconcile.'" And whoever abandons his brother for a year is as if he has shed his blood. The two brothers must repent and reconcile, and the family and people of goodwill should mediate between them. The questioner should advise her husband gently and explain the seriousness of this matter, and the sister has the duty of maintaining ties just like her brother, and she bears the sin of قطعيه (severing ties) just like him.
