Is the wife of one's paternal uncle considered among the relatives to whom one owes a duty of maintaining ties of kinship, and is limiting interaction with her to merely greeting and shaking hands considered a severance of kin ties or abandonment, which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade if it exceeds three days?

The kin whose ties are obligatory to maintain are those relatives between whom marriage is prohibited (due to consanguinity), such as ascendants and descendants, and those who fall under them, including paternal uncles, paternal aunts, maternal uncles, and maternal aunts. Based on this, it is not obligatory to maintain ties with one's paternal uncle's wife if she is not among these relatives. The forbidden estrangement between Muslims is removed by offering and returning salutations, according to most scholars. However, it is more cautious to restore the relationship to its previous state to avoid conflict and to perfect the maintaining of ties with the paternal uncle.
