The answer

If the time for prayer begins while a woman is in a state of purity, and she remains in that state for a time sufficient for purification and prayer, then menstruation begins before she prays, she is obligated to make up that prayer. And if she purifies from menstruation before the prayer time exits, by a period sufficient for the takbīrat al-iḥrām (the opening takbīr of the prayer), she is obligated to make up that prayer. However, if she does not confirm purity until after the prayer time has exited, she is not required to make up that prayer. It is not permissible to abandon prayer merely due to menstrual pains, unless menstrual blood has begun to flow.
