Is saying, "My ultimate goal is the pleasure of my Lord and your pleasure," or performing an act to please the Messenger (peace be upon him) after his death permissible, or is it a mistake or polytheism (shirk), based on the understanding that the Messenger (peace be upon him) does not know the affairs of his Ummah after his death except for what Allah informs him of, and by analogy with the fatwa regarding not expecting bounty from the Messenger (peace be upon him) after his death?

A Muslim seeking the pleasure of the Messenger, peace be upon him, is not objectionable, because Allah Almighty has made His pleasure with His creation contingent upon the pleasure of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and has commanded obedience to Him and to His Messenger, peace be upon him. Allah Almighty says: "He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah" (An-Nisa: 80), and "They swear by Allah to you to please you, but Allah and His Messenger are more worthy that they should please Him, if they should be believers" (At-Tawbah: 61). Pleasing the Messenger is achieved by obeying him and conforming to his commands, and a Muslim is eager to please and obey him by acting upon what he brought from Allah. There is a difference between the right of Allah and the right of the Messenger; for worship, awe, reliance, supplication, hope, and fear are due to Allah alone, while obedience, love, and pleasing are for Allah and for the Messenger, because obeying, pleasing, and loving the Messenger are from obeying, pleasing, and loving Allah.
