Is it permissible for one of the sons to perform Hajj on behalf of their deceased father using his (the son’s) own money, given that their father possessed the means and health to perform the Hajj obligation but did not do so out of fear of poverty in his old age?

Whoever is able to perform Hajj should hasten to do so, for neglecting it is a grave sin. Allah Almighty says: "And [due] to Allah from the people is a Hajj to the House – for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves – then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds." It has been narrated that whoever possesses provisions and a ride and does not perform Hajj, it does not matter if he dies a Jew or a Christian. And whoever is able to perform Hajj should not think ill of his Lord, for spending money on Hajj does not lead to poverty; rather, it is a cause for abundant provision and dispelling poverty. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Perform Hajj and Umrah consecutively, for they eradicate poverty and sins." If this man dies before performing Hajj, then the expenses for Hajj must be taken from his estate before its division.
