What is the religious ruling concerning a husband who divorced his wife more than three times on different occasions, some during her pregnancy and some during a period of purity in which he had intercourse with her, knowing that both he and his wife were suffering from psychological disorders, and he was not convinced of religious rulings at the time of the divorce, but then became committed and now fears that his wife may be forbidden to him?

The divorce of an apostate that occurs after consummation is valid if the apostate returns to Islam before the 'iddah (waiting period) ends. However, if he does not embrace Islam until the 'iddah expires, or if he apostatized before consummation, his divorce is invalid. Similarly, if a Muslim marries while being an apostate, his marriage is invalid without dispute, and therefore, no divorce is counted in such a case. Matters such as these should be presented to a Sharia court or to trustworthy scholars.
