It is permissible for a Muslim to work for a non-Muslim in a specific job that does not involve serving the non-Muslim, provided that the work is not forbidden (haram), that the Muslim does not harbor affection for the non-believers, and that the Muslim adheres to the Sharia rulings pertaining to interacting with them (such as initiating greetings of peace, offering condolences, and congratulations). The default rule is the prohibition of mixed-gender work environments, and this prohibition becomes even stronger when the mixing is with non-Muslims due to the prevalence of immorality and illicit relationships among them. Therefore, a Muslim woman should leave mixed-gender work environments and seek employment free from such mixing.
