What is the ruling on a husband who abandons his wife for reasons such as her not seeking his permission when dealing with the driver, or his rejection of her requests, or his preventing her from going out with her family, or his restricting her when shopping? And is he entitled to abandon her due to his disapproval of her bringing a domestic worker?

Allah Almighty commanded the husband to treat his wife kindly, and for respect, understanding, and cooperation to prevail between them, as He Almighty said: "And live with them in kindness." The wife must obey her husband in what is right. If he forbids her from going out, she must obey him. Similarly, if he forbids her from going out alone with the driver, because that is a forbidden seclusion (khalwa). The wife must be patient with any foolishness or stubbornness from her husband and pray for his rectification, because a wife's defiance of her husband leads to discord and separation. The husband should not exploit his guardianship over his wife to dominate her, for a man's guardianship over a woman is one of organization and management, not one of oppression and domination. Both spouses must strive for understanding and consultation to achieve affection and family happiness.
