What is the meaning of the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "Indeed, the eye commits fornication," and how can this be avoided in our present time?

The meaning of the "fornication of the eyes" is for them to look at what is forbidden, and at what leads them to fall into the fornication of the private parts. Avoiding this is achieved by obeying Allah Almighty's command to lower the gaze, and by striving against the self and curbing the reins of its desires, for a forbidden glance is a poisoned arrow.
