The method of ghusl (ritual bath) can be summarized as either sufficient (mujzi') or complete (kamil). As for the differing opinions among scholars, the majority do not stipulate rubbing the body with the hand (dalk), they do stipulate intention (niyyah) for ghusl, and they consider rinsing the mouth (madmadah) and sniffing water into the nose (istinshaq) to be sunnah (recommended) and not obligatory. They also do not stipulate an order between washing the head and the body. Imam Malik differed regarding dalk, the Hanafis regarding niyyah, and Abu Hanifah and the Hanbalis regarding madmadah and istinshaq.
