Is a boy who steals before the age of eighteen sinful, and must he return the stolen goods to his father, and how would that be? And is he obligated to return them if he remembers the theft after his father's death, when he is forty or fifty years old, and has no money?

The preponderant view is that puberty is reached by nocturnal emission (ihtilam), the growth of pubic hair, or attaining fifteen years of age. If the theft occurred after puberty, then sin is incurred, and one is obligated to guarantee the money and return it to its owner or their heirs. However, if the theft occurred before puberty, there is no sin, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The pen has been lifted from three: from the sleeper until he awakens, from the child until he reaches maturity, and from the insane person until he regains his sanity." Nevertheless, the money must be returned to its owner or their heirs, and the right remains a debt upon him if he is in hardship until he is able to pay it back.
