Theft is a major sin. However, what occurred before puberty is not sinful, based on the hadith: "The pen has been lifted from three." Nevertheless, stolen items must be guaranteed, whether the theft occurred before or after puberty, by returning them to their owners or seeking their absolution. If it's not possible to inform them, the rights must be returned without informing them. If this is currently difficult, one must make the intention to return them whenever it becomes possible. If the amount is unknown, one should pay what is most likely to absolve their conscience.
