What is the ruling on someone who imagined events aloud, and uttered a divorce in an audible voice without moving the tongue, knowing that he suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder regarding purity and divorce?
A person is not held accountable, according to Sharia, for inner thoughts unless they are uttered, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah has forgiven my Ummah for what they whisper to themselves, as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it." So, if a person imagines making a divorce contingent on something in the future, nothing results from that, and all of this is from the whispers (waswas) that should be ignored.
