What is the ruling on zakat for an orchard that contains various fruits and where bees are raised, knowing that the family is neither poor nor in need?

The questioner should advise his father with utmost gentleness and politeness regarding zakat. If zakat is obligatory and he refuses to pay it, then he should remind him of the warning against those who withhold zakat. However, if it is a voluntary charity, he should encourage him by mentioning the virtue of charity and that it increases sustenance, while emphasizing the importance of balancing the needs of the family with giving to the poor.

Zakat is not obligatory on fruits according to the majority of scholars. As for the zakat on honey, there is a difference of opinion. The Malikis and Shafi'is do not consider it obligatory, while the Hanafis and Hanbalis consider it obligatory if it reaches a nisab (minimum threshold), which is ten qirab (approximately 160 Iraqi rotls). Some scholars have opined that nothing is due as zakat on honey, but the preferable and more cautious approach is to pay it as a precautionary measure.
